Reflections On Art
Chinese people pay much attention to history. Art, actually, serves as the footnote of history. As a saying goes, a great artist correlates strongly with his times and no great work fails to reflect the spirit of the age. I didn¡¯t think so when I was young. However, with the passage of time, I have gradually accepted the idea.
Individuals can do little to change the course of the history; artists are no exception. Flipping through the pages of historical books, we can easily find quite a few artists are forced to bow to the reality! Therefore, those artists, who never yielded to fate and authority and persisted with their own personalities, if not rare, deserve our respect.
It is not easy to be an artist; it is still more difficult to be an artist in this age.
In today¡¯s network age, people often find themselves bewildered in front of information waves. Confronted with so many trends of thoughts and styles, it is by no means easy to distinguish the false from the true and to select the essence while discard the dross.
As an artist, what I can do is to see with my own eyes, to think with my own mind, to understand with my own heart, and to have a feel of the world in a responsible way.
